I must write in it

NaNoWriMo 2009

Participating in NaNoWriMo.

I’m totally not going to make 50k words. Hell no. More like 15k, which is better than 10k (from the previous two years). 25k if I feel awesome and have time.

And I actually have a vague outline for the novel I want to write. It’s Steampunk, old-school style. By that, I mean that I want it to have the elements of the early steampunk stories, such as, “Man creates machine to use as a weapon against the world.” It won’t be set in the Victorian era though. I’m thinking of setting it in a supernatural alternate universe sort of deal. Or just a completely different world.

Hmm. Decisions, decisions. And so very little time.

IRL 2009.09.23 Wednesday

  • N: So, Steph, how are you? Do you have issues?
  • S: I am peachy.
  • N: So you do have issues. Do you wanna talk about it?
  • S: How does "I am peachy" translate to "I have issues"?
  • N: You need to talk about your issues, Steph.
  • S: ...
  • N: It's simple, Steph. Very simple.

Best out of everyone he who himself sees all that concerns him;
Excellent too is that man who listens to others’ good counsel.
But the one who neither sees for himself, nor, hearing another,
Takes the words to his heart — now that is a useless man.

– Hesiod, as quoted in Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, translated by Christopher Rowe
